Led into a trap, he is captured, put under heavy sedation, and then flown to Bad Alstadt, Bavaria. There, the Germans have completely transformed an isolated resort into a U.S.

ME-itary Hospital, Allied Occupation Forces, and its staff, patients and equipment are all identifiably GI. When Garner regains consciousness, he finds that he is a considerably older looking chap-due to "aging" techniques applied while he was unconscious. And he is persuaded to believe that the date is 1950, that the war has been over for years, that he has been an amnesia victim for six years, and has Eva Maria Saint, a concentration camp survivor, as a wife. Garner reveals the landing site to Taylor, then accidentally discovers the Germane scheme. At this point, the picture, which has been poking along at too slow a pace, picks up some speed but unfortunately turns into another routine "escape" film.

Still it has some good points, mostly due to Taylor's expert handling of his role, sympathetically and realistically as a man torn between humanity and duty. And it's a rather fanciful method a German psychiatrist has cooked up to worm out the secrets of the landings: he tries to convince Garner that it's six years after the war and thus the "loose lips sink ships" edict no longer holds. The film takes Its title from the time allotted to the pys-chiatrist, expertly portrayed by Rod Taylor, to dip out the leading details despite the interference of a Gestapo agent, who favors the third degree over the Ph.D.
